Where the magic happens....
Wee Wild Sparks Outdoor Nursery takes place entirely out doors, within 7 acres of mixed woodland teaming with wildlife and natural play features.
The site is constantly evolving and developing, as the seasons change, as the children discover and create new play features and when, from time to time, the builders come in.
In addition to the infinite array of climbing trees, stumps, holes, swamps and slopes the Wee Wild Sparks site is equipped with a few facilities...
Featuring a wood burning stove and cosy corners for napping. This is our hide out when the weather takes a turn for the worse. Perfect for enjoying some cosy stories and songs and warming up.
We have portable hand washing systems to keep children's hands germ free wherever we are in the woods.
We have one fancy and two basic composting toilets on site, as well as various 'pee trees'. We can provide a potty if that is your child's preference and accommodate nappy changing in designated and hygienic spaces.
Snack and lunch are eaten outdoors whatever the weather, we rig up a tarp for particularly bad weather.
The walk to the woods
Each morning we journey around 1/2 mile from the meeting place The walk is an important part of the day's rhythm and the transition from home to nursery and back again. Children must carry their own bag and walk the whole way; we find reluctant walkers soon build up their stamina.
What to wear
It is impossible to over emphasise the importance of clothing! Children who are dressed to be warm and waterproof will enjoy themselves even when it is cold and wet.
The Mud Kitchen
Our simple mud kitchens provide the perfect platform for mixing mud based culinary delights and magical potions. The children have discovered they also make a great stage, shop, bus, aeroplane and hiding place!
Learning in nature
Being outside in the woods allows children to apply their learning directly in meaningful ways, acquiring skills that will stand them in good stead through their lives.
