Volunteer with Wee Wild Sparks Outdoor Nursery
Wee Wild Sparks offers volunteering opportunities to those with a genuine interest in and commitment to outdoor and play based early years practice. We ask for a minimum commitment of 10 weeks to ensure both parties get the most out of the experience. In return we will provide individualised support and mentoring during your placement. We require volunteers to commit to half or full days, ideally synching in with our start time of 8.45 and end time of 3.30. However there is flexibility for the right candidate. Openings come up throughout the year so please get in touch to find out if there is a space that would suit your availability. The role will involve supporting the team with all aspects of delivering the nursery service in our woodland setting, there may be opportunities to support with office and administrative tasks too, for interested parties. In return you will receive tailored support to develop your professional skills and knowledge in outdoor play and learning practice. This opportunity is suitable for anyone considering or starting out on a career in outdoor play and learning, including Forest Schools, or an experienced teacher / practitioner wishing to build experience of working outdoors. We suggest that prospective volunteers arrange a time to visit the site, meet the team and establish if Wee Wild Sparks is right for them. We then ask volunteers to complete a short application and undertake vetting procedures in line with our Child Protection policies. Please note that we do not allow volunteers to be accompanied by their own children, or, if your child is enrolled with us, when your own child is attending nursery. We are happy to discuss our reasons for this upon request. email us to find out more. |
Current opportunities: We are currently seeking volunteers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 2022-23 "When an opportunity arose to volunteer with Wee Wild Sparks Nursery I didn't think twice and have never looked back. I am now a fully fledged member of the team and every time I traipse across the field on my "commute" to the nursery I have to pinch myself. As a parent and as a member of staff I have always felt that I have had the full support of the Wild Sparks team and as a team member I feel that we are encouraged to grow and learn alongside the children we are working with. In terms of workplaces, you honestly can't ask for better, even on the more challenging, extra soggy days I always go home with a smile on my face." - Nikki Edmondson |
“My experience of volunteering with Wee Wild Sparks has been enormously rewarding and fulfilling. I have gained a unique insight into the incredible way young children benefit from a forest nursery. I have developed my practical bushcraft skills in all weathers come rain or shine. Jo and Alice’s commitment, experience and resilience are inspirational. They have been patient and valuable mentors and have supported me in my change of career to outdoor education. I was nervous when I first started volunteering but I was made so welcome that now it is the best part of my week!”
